There are many organizations in Minnesota and across the nation working to end hunger. The following is list of some of them: Associated Ministries:Congregations working together to build a community that is compassionate, humane and just. Bread for the World:Nationwide Christian movement that seeks justice for the worlds hungry people by lobbying our nation's decision makers. California Food Policy Advocates:A private nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and well being of low-income Californians by increasing their access to nutritious, affordable, and safe food. Center on Budget and Policy Priorities:A research and policy institute that conducts research and analysis on a range of government policies and programs, with emphasis on those affecting low- and moderate-income people. Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems:A sustainable agricultural research center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Children's Defense Fund:Works to ensure that every child receives a healthy start, a head start, a fair start, a safe start and a moral start in life, and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities. Feeding America:Formerly America's Second Harvest, is the largest charitable hunger relief organization in the United States. Their mission is to feed hungry people by soliciting and distributing food and grocery products through a nationwide network of affiliated food banks. Food Research and Action Center:Leading national organization working to improve public policies and eradicate hunger and undernutrition in the United States. Hunger Solutions Minnesota:Supports direct service to children, families, and seniors in need of nutritious meals, advocates for the hungry, and promotes public education about hunger. They also organize the Hormel Hunger Walk on Thanksgiving day to raise money for hunger programs. Institute for Food and Development Policy (Food First):A member-supported, nonprofit people's think tank and education-for-action center. Joint Religious Legislative Coalition:Guided by basic Jewish and Christian moral vision, JRLC strives to further the cause of social justice in Minnesota by proposing and promoting responsible legislation; assisting congregations in the task of discerning and teaching God's vision of justice, and calling communities of faith to prophetic, unified action. MAZON:A Jewish response to hunger. Metropolitan Interfaith Council on Affordable Housing:Mobilizes congregations and people of all faiths to address the root causes of inadequate housing. Minnesota Budget Project:An organization that provides independent research, analysis and outreach on state budget and tax policy issues, with an emphasis on those issues affecting low- and moderate-income persons and the organizations that serve them. Minnesota Council on Economic Education:A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization which seeks to provide Minnesotans with the economic understanding to function in a complex global environment. Minnesota Housing Partnership:Membership-based nonprofit that increases the capacity of nonprofits and small public agencies to create, preserve and promote affordable housing. Minnesota Hunger Partners:A collaborative of statewide nonprofit organizations working together to end hunger in Minnesota while addressing its root cause, poverty. Minnesota Planning:A state agency which provides timely information about issues that are critical to policy makers and the public. Minnesota State Legislature:Track bills and get information on legislative action. National Hunger Clearinghouse:A project which connects thousands of groups working on hunger, food, nutrition and agricultural issues. North Star:Minnesota government information and services. St. Paul Farmers Market:Listing of locations, products, events and recipes for fresh, locally grown produce sold directly from grower to consumer in St. Paul, Minnesota. Sustainable Communities Network Home Page:Linking citizens to resources and to one another to create healthy, vital, sustainable communities. Urban Institute:A nonpartisan economic and social policy research organization. USDA Food and Nutrition Service:The Food and Nutrition Service reduces hunger and food insecurity in partnership with cooperating organizations by providing children and needy families access to food, a healthful diet and nutrition education in a manner that supports American agriculture and inspires public confidence. USDA Food Security Resources:USDA site which posts recent studies on food security, and use of the food security measurement tools. World Food:This site will link you to World Food Summit and agricultural debates about how to solve some of the world's food production, distribution and hunger problems. World Hunger Year:Organization whose mission is to support and promote innovative, long-term solutions to hunger through self-reliance, economic justice, community-building and food security.
