Food Shelf Usage Data

Below are links to charts showing food shelf use month-by-month for every Minnesota food shelf in the Second Harvest Food Bank system. The data ranges from 2002 through 2006 (the most recent data available). There are two kinds of charts: individuals served, covering all individuals in all households receiving food shelf assistance*, and pounds of food distributed.

It is important to remember that there a many variables affecting food shelf use. A dramatic change can happen for a number of reasons. These numbers provide clues, and can only be seen in the context of other information about a town, county or region of the state. There are also some instances where usage data was missing or not filed.

By county

By congressional district

*If a person receives food from a food shelf twice in a month, that person is counted twice.

Electronically mapping the precise locations of the food shelves in order to present these geographic breakdowns was the large challenge; we thank the consulting firm Urban Planet for their assistance.
